Palomas Native Brings Fresh Ideas to WNMU MEChA
DEMING – Valeria Adame, a fourth-year Business and Marketing student at Western New Mexico University (WNMU), is contributing fresh ideas to MEChA, a student organization focused on Chicano empowerment.
Adame grew up in Puerto Palomas, Chihuahua, commuting daily to schools in Columbus and Deming, New Mexico. Despite long days crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, her parents encouraged her to study in the U.S. for better opportunities.
Her choice of WNMU was influenced by an early program encouraging girls to pursue STEM fields. Although she chose Business, Adame says WNMU has been a great fit, especially appreciating the diversity among students.
As a member of MEChA, she’s involved in planning events like a Día de los Muertos celebration and hopes to bring folklorico dance to the university. Adame also works as a student employee in Marketing, where she’s gaining valuable experience.
