DEMING – Counseling students at Western New Mexico University are gaining essential skills in remote mental health services through a nationally recognized telemental health training program. This program ensures students meet the requirements to become Board Certified Telemental Health Providers.
Faculty recently highlighted the program at the Rocky Mountain Association for Counselor Education and Supervision, focusing on its importance in addressing the need for mental health services in rural areas.
The training covers crisis management, client identity verification, technology platforms, and HIPAA compliance. WNMU aims to develop a student-run telemental health clinic to provide affordable counseling services to underserved communities in New Mexico.
