DEMING – Luna County reported New Mexico’s highest unemployment rate for October 2024, at 9.7 percent. This is a rise from 8.3 percent last month and significantly higher than the 7.8 percent reported a year ago, underscoring ongoing economic challenges in the area.
Sierra and Cibola counties followed, each with a 6.0 percent unemployment rate. In contrast, Los Alamos County recorded the state’s lowest unemployment rate at 2.4 percent, with Eddy County close behind at 3.1 percent.
Among Luna County’s neighboring areas, Grant County posted an unemployment rate of 3.8 percent, while both Hidalgo and Doña Ana counties stood at 4.7 percent.
Statewide, New Mexico’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.3 percent in October, based on the Current Population Survey.
The national unemployment rate in October was 4.1 percent.
