DEMING – The Deming Police Department has announced the arrest of one of its officers, Jesus Lopez, Jr., following allegations of criminal activity. The allegations surfaced on November 29, prompting immediate action by the department to ensure accountability.
Officer Lopez was placed on administrative leave as the matter was referred to the New Mexico State Police for an impartial investigation. On December 5, State Police arrested Lopez, and he has since been suspended without pay pending further developments.
KDEM News has reached out to the New Mexico State Police to obtain additional information about the charges. As of this writing, we have not received a response.
Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara told KDEM News, “I would like to add that the City of Deming Police Department is committed to upholding the highest standard of conduct and professionalism among all personnel. We recognize the importance of public trust in law enforcement and are dedicated to addressing any actions that may compromise that trust.”
The Deming Police Department confirmed its commitment to transparency and said updates would be provided as the investigation and legal proceedings progress.
