DEMING – Around 350 Deming Public School students enjoyed holiday shopping sprees Saturday morning, thanks to the efforts of local law enforcement and community support. Participating agencies included the Deming Police Department, New Mexico State Police, U.S. Border Patrol, Luna County Detention Center, Homeland Security Investigations, Deming Fire Department, Deming Police Explorers, and the Luna County Sheriff’s Office.
Each child received $50 to shop for Christmas gifts, with many choosing presents not only for themselves but also for their parents and siblings. Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara told KDEM News he loves seeing the joy on the children’s faces, noting their selflessness in picking out gifts for family members.
Local officers have been raising funds for the annual event since last year, with the Deming and Luna County community stepping up to support their efforts. Organizers say the event continues to highlight the spirit of the season, bringing smiles to children and families alike.
