Luna County Commissioners to Address Key Issues This Thursday

DEMING – This Thursday, January 9, at 10 a.m., immediately following a 9 a.m. work session, Luna County Commissioners will convene for their first regular meeting of 2025. The agenda includes organizational updates, financial approvals, and community recognitions.

Commissioners will elect the 2025 Chairperson and review minutes from December’s special meetings. Crystal Garcia will receive a 10-year service award with Starmax, and Chris Brice and Kristie Hobb will present community service plaques and staff appreciation awards. Pablo Montoya will provide a quarterly report on restrictive housing at the Luna County Detention Center.

A consent agenda totaling over $4.7 million in accounts payable and payroll awaits approval, along with resolutions covering ADA compliance, public records access, and infrastructure funding. Two Colonias Infrastructure Project grants supporting water and roadway improvements are also on the agenda.

The meeting will conclude with a presentation of indigent claims and announcements of upcoming events, including the NMC Legislative Conference and Martin Luther King Jr. Day office closures.
