Luna County Commission Meeting Highlights
DEMING – The Luna County Commission will hold its regular meeting on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 10 a.m., following a work session at 9 a.m. Several county employees will be recognized for their years of dedicated service to Luna County. Phillip Rodriguez, from the Emergency Management Department, will be honored for five years of service, while Renee Rivera from the Assessor’s Office and David Townsend from the Safety & Risk Department will also celebrate five years of hard work. Additionally, Crystal Garcia, from Starmax, will be recognized for an impressive 10 years of service.
Special recognitions will also be given, including a Community Service Plaque by Chris Brice and a Treasurer’s Staff Appreciation award presented by Kristie Hobbs. These acknowledgments highlight the county employees’ continued commitment to serving the community.
The commission will hear several important presentations during the meeting. Lloyd Valentine will provide an update on the Water Basin, and Judy Hatch will present the details of the Luna County Fleet GPS installation.
New business will include the discussion of several resolutions related to ongoing county projects. These include Resolution 25-17, which seeks financial assistance for the Doña Ana Road Improvement Project, and a joint powers agreement with the City of Deming for the Rio Mimbres Golf Course.
The commission will also review requests for waivers of the Mimbres Valley Special Events Center fee for the “I Hope You Dance” Cash Party, scheduled for February 15, 2025, and the National Day of Prayer, which takes place on May 1, 2025.
Additionally, Sheriff Deputies Nicholas Aguirre and Ceazar Chavez will take the oath of office, affirming their positions with the Luna County Sheriff’s Department.
After the meeting, the commission will conduct their annual inspection of the detention center. Please note that the detention center will not be open to the public during this time.
