DEMING – Luna County 4-H members joined forces with the Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau and the BorderBelles for their annual Food Link initiative, purchasing groceries for the Healing House, the county’s shelter for victims of domestic violence.
This year’s shopping event took place on Tuesday, March 18, at Peppers Supermarket. Armed with a shopping list provided by the Healing House, 4-H members selected a variety of items, including fresh produce, meats, spices, and canned goods. In total, $1,250 worth of food was donated to the shelter.
4-H is the largest nationally recognized youth organization, focusing on citizenship, leadership, and life skills through hands-on learning experiences. The program welcomes members ages 5-19, offering a range of activities and community service opportunities.
The BorderBelles, a chapter of the New Mexico CowBelles, promote awareness of the beef industry’s nutritional value and sustainable practices. Similarly, the Luna County Farm and Livestock Bureau operates as part of the national Farm Bureau, advocating for agricultural education and policy.
The annual shopping event highlights the agricultural community’s commitment to supporting local youth and service programs. Organizers say the project not only benefits those in need but also teaches 4-H members the value of community involvement.
