Bataan Elementary Students to Honor Bataan Death March With Tribute Ceremony

DEMING – Fifth-grade students at Bataan Elementary School will lead a tribute to honor the sacrifices of those involved in the Bataan Death March. The event will take place Wednesday, April 9, at 10 a.m. in the school’s gymnasium.

The student-led ceremony will feature keynote speaker Christopher Schurtz, the grandson of Paul Schurtz, a survivor of the Bataan Death March who later died as a prisoner of war in 1944. Through their presentations, students will highlight the historical significance of the march and honor those who endured its hardships.

Veterans and community members are encouraged to attend and take part in the remembrance event.
