Deming Schools to Release Students Early Monday Due to Severe Weather Forecast

DEMING – All schools within the Deming Public Schools district will dismiss students early on Monday, May 19, 2025, due to expected severe weather conditions including high winds, low visibility and the potential for road closures.

District officials announced the decision on Friday, citing an abundance of caution to ensure the safety of students and staff throughout Luna County.

The early release schedule is as follows:

  • Secondary school buses serving Deming Intermediate School (DIS), Red Mountain Middle School (RMMS), Deming High School (DHS), Early College High School (ECHS) and Deming Cesar Chavez Charter High School (DCCCHS) with routes to Columbus and the Port of Entry will depart at 11:30 a.m.
  • Buses 10, 14, 19 and 7 will also depart at 11:30 a.m.
  • All elementary schools serving pre-K through 5th grade will dismiss at 12 p.m.
  • RMMS students will be released at 12:10 p.m.
  • DIS, ECHS, and DCCCHS will release students at 12:15 p.m.
  • DHS and Mimbres Valley High School (MVHS) will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.

There will be no late route buses scheduled for Deming High, Red Mountain Middle or Deming Intermediate Schools. In addition, no after-school programs will be held districtwide on Monday.

Students who miss their assigned bus will be directed to their school’s front office, where they may contact a parent or guardian for pickup.

To support continued learning during the early dismissal, students will receive independent assignments:

  • Pre-K through 6th grade students will receive practice work aligned with the morning’s instruction.
  • 7th and 8th graders will receive assignments in math and English language arts.
  • 9th through 11th grade students will receive finals review materials via Canvas.

Parents or guardians with questions are encouraged to contact their child’s school directly or reach out to the Deming Public Schools district office at 575-546-8841.

“We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of families as we make decisions that place the safety of our students and staff first,” the district said in a statement.
