WNMU Athletic Director Scott Noble Resigns After Seven Years

DEMING – After seven years at the helm, Scott Noble has announced his resignation as Executive Director of Athletics at Western New Mexico University.

During his tenure, Noble led WNMU Athletics through a period of historic growth and achievement. His leadership brought significant upgrades to athletic facilities—including the opening of The Yard, WNMU’s state-of-the-art softball complex—and advanced both academic and athletic performance across all sports.

Under Noble’s direction, Mustang student-athletes consistently excelled in the classroom. In the 2024–25 academic year alone, 126 students earned Lone Star Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll recognition, including 55 with perfect 4.0 GPAs. The department posted a 3.15 cumulative GPA for the spring semester.

On the field, WNMU marked its first winning football season in nearly 30 years, a winning men’s basketball season for the first time in over 15 years, a regional title in men’s golf, and a third-place finish in men’s cross country—its best ever in the Lone Star Conference. The softball team also posted its strongest season in more than a decade.

In addition to competitive success, Noble helped secure increased athletic funding, expanded scholarship opportunities, and grew both the coaching and administrative staff to better support student-athletes.

Dr. Jack Crocker, WNMU Provost and Acting President, praised Noble’s impact, saying, “Scott’s passion for student athletes’ competitive and academic success will be missed. His forceful leadership has laid the groundwork for continued success in the years ahead.”

An interim director will be appointed while the university conducts a search for Noble’s successor.
