DEMING – The Luna County Board of Commissioners will convene on Thursday, June 12, 2025, for a work session at 9:30 a.m., immediately followed by their regular meeting at 10:00 a.m. Both sessions will take place at the Luna County Courthouse.
The work session will give commissioners an opportunity to review agenda items and receive background information ahead of the formal meeting, chaired by District 2 Commissioner Colette M. Chandler, with Ray J. Trejo (District 1) and Christie Ann Harvey (District 3) also in attendance.
The 10:00 a.m. regular meeting will open with roll call and the approval of minutes from four previous gatherings held in May. Commissioners will then hear presentations from local and regional partners including:
- Duke H. Young, CEO of Mimbres Valley Medical Center, delivering a 2025 community update;
- Tiffany Coleman of VinTif Solutions, introducing new grant and HR services; and
- Cody McDougal of USDA APHIS, providing a federal program briefing.
The consent agenda includes approval of $4,018,837.26 in accounts payable and $2,220,647.20 in payroll, along with resolutions for budget adjustments, fixed asset disposal, and the appointment of Sheriff Deputy Marcos Alvarez.
Commissioners will also hear updates from elected officials including the Assessor, Clerk, Probate Judge, Treasurer, Sheriff, and fellow commissioners.
Two ordinance calls are proposed:
- Resolution 25-37 to amend Burn Ordinance 84, and
- Resolution 25-38 to expand the Board of County Commissioners from three to five members.
Under old business, the board will consider extending Resolution 25-26, which restricts the use of fireworks and open burning due to fire danger.
The new business agenda is extensive, covering:
- Line-item budget authority for the procurement director
- Certification of county fixed assets
- Designation of polling places for 2026–2027
- Board of Registration appointments
- Support for Chihuahua’s “Corredor Noroeste” development
- Application for a National Fitness Campaign grant
- A resolution backing Catron County’s declaration of disaster over Mexican grey wolf damage
- Proclamation 25-11 opposing presidential overreach on public lands
- Appointments to a Commission of Freeholders under § 67-5-4, NMSA 1978
The board will recess to act as the Claims Board to consider indigent health claims totaling $32,561.96, before reconvening as the County Commission.
The meeting will wrap up with community support reports and the County Manager’s Report by Chris Brice.
Residents are encouraged to attend and participate. As a courtesy, attendees are reminded to silence all electronic devices during the meeting.
