DEMING – The Deming Police Department has announced updates to its patrol unit lineup and DWI enforcement efforts, according to Chief of Police Sergio Lara.
Lara told Deming Radio News that the department recently converted a 2020 black Ford F-150 pickup—previously used as an administrative vehicle—into a fully equipped patrol unit. The vehicle is now assigned to Lieutenant Robert Chavez, with official decals recently applied to ensure full compliance and visibility. Residents can now expect to see this vehicle on patrol throughout the community.
In addition, Lara said the city, in partnership with the Luna County DWI Program, has remodeled a city-owned trailer to be used as a mobile DWI checkpoint unit. The project was funded by the Luna County DWI Prevention Council, allowing for updates that make the trailer fully operational for roadside enforcement.
Lara confirmed that the city, county, and state law enforcement agencies will coordinate to conduct DWI checkpoints within Deming city limits in the coming months, as part of an ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving.
