DEMING – The Luna County Planning Department has announced a change to its payment policy effective October 1, 2025. Beginning on that date, cash will no longer be accepted for permits, applications, facilities, or any other department services.
Accepted forms of payment will include:
- Personal or business checks
- Cashier’s checks
- Money orders
- Credit or debit cards (standard processing fees apply)
Why the change?
The County states that this policy will improve:
- Security – by reducing the risk of theft or loss
- Accountability – through accurate transaction tracking
- Efficiency – by streamlining processing and recordkeeping
- Compliance – supporting transparency and audit readiness
County officials acknowledge the change may inconvenience some residents but emphasize that the decision was made to protect the public and staff and enhance service quality.
