DEMING – A small dog struck by a vehicle on the Columbus Highway is now receiving emergency medical care thanks to the quick actions of local residents and the Deming Luna County Humane Society.
According to shelter staff, a woman and man witnessed the dog running in confusion after being hit. Working together, they were able to safely catch the injured animal and gently wrap it in a blanket to calm its fear. The dog was immediately transported to the Deming Animal Shelter for assessment.
Upon arrival, shelter personnel noted signs of severe distress, dehydration, and pain. The on-call emergency veterinarian was quickly contacted. The dog is now under professional evaluation and is being treated with pain medication to stabilize its condition.
Initial observations suggest the dog has suffered a serious leg fracture. X-rays and further diagnostic tests will be performed over the next two days to determine the full extent of the injuries and any additional treatment needed.
If this may be your pet, the Deming Animal Shelter urges you to contact them as soon as possible for more information.
The Humane Society expressed gratitude to the community members who stepped in without hesitation, noting that their compassion made a difference in what could have been a tragic outcome.
