National Guard Honors WNMU for Support During Trout Fire Response

DEMING – This week, Brigadier General Matthew Henry, Air Commander of the New Mexico National Guard, visited Western New Mexico University (WNMU) to personally thank the university community for its support during the Guard’s recent mission responding to the Trout Fire.

General Henry was joined by fellow service members during the visit. In a gesture of appreciation, the National Guard presented WNMU with official unit patches and a framed photograph showcasing the various aircraft flown throughout the Guard’s service history.

WNMU officials say they are honored to support the men and women who serve, and are proud to stand in partnership with those who protect communities across New Mexico.

The Trout Fire, which burned in the Gila region earlier this season, saw coordinated response efforts from multiple agencies—including the National Guard, who provided critical air support during the operation.
