DEMING – Deming Public Schools has released updated transportation eligibility rules and procedures for the upcoming 2025–2026 academic year. The district’s Transportation Team encourages families to review their child’s status in Infinite Campus and take action early if an exception request is needed.
Who Qualifies for Bus Transportation?
According to New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) regulations, students are eligible for transportation if they live:
- One mile or more from school (grades K–6)
- One and a half miles or more (grades 7–9)
- Two miles or more (grades 10–12)
Students attending schools outside their assigned boundary or those enrolled in NM Pre-K programs are not eligible for transportation unless an Individualized Education Program (IEP) specifies the need.
What Parents Should Do
All bus riders must complete and sign the Parent/Student Roles & Responsibilities form, available through the Infinite Campus portal.
Students are expected to be at the bus stop 10–15 minutes prior to the scheduled pick-up time listed in Infinite Campus.
If transportation is missing or incorrect in a student’s profile, families are asked to contact the Transportation Team directly at (575) 543-1009.
Need an Exception?
Some students may qualify for transportation exceptions due to:
- Documented hardship (e.g., no working vehicle, conflicting work hours)
- Special custody arrangements that impact pick-up/drop-off
- Verified medical or safety concerns
Exceptions are considered on a case-by-case basis and are only approved when supporting documentation is provided and space is available on an existing bus route.
Application Window
Families needing an exception must submit a Transportation Exception Request Form, available via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or by visiting the Transportation Department.
Applications open July 28, 2025, and must be submitted no later than August 22, 2025.
