Threat Temporarily Closes Luna County Courthouse Wednesday Morning

DEMING – The Luna County Courthouse was closed to the public Wednesday morning following a threat reported to county officials.

An alert was issued shortly after 8:00 AM through the county’s emergency text message system, notifying the public that the historic courthouse would remain closed until noon. Luna County Manager Chris Brice told KDEM and KOTS News that he was first notified of the threat around 6:30 AM by a county employee and made the decision to close the facility temporarily for the safety of both staff and the public.

The nature of the threat and the method by which it was made have not been disclosed. The New Mexico State Police are handling the investigation, and the case remains open.

The courthouse reopened for normal operations at 12:00 PM.
