Red Cross Launches Enhanced Donor Experience at Monday’s Deming Blood Drive

DEMING – Blood donors in Deming will be among the first in the region to take part in a new, streamlined donation process as part of the American Red Cross’s enhanced donor experience pilot program—rolling out in select trial areas across the country.

The City of Deming is hosting the upcoming blood drive on Monday, July 28 at 2:30 PM at the WNMU Deming Mimbres Learning Center, located at 2300 E. Pine Street. This local event will feature several key improvements designed to make the donation process more comfortable and efficient.

Among the changes: the Red Cross is eliminating the traditional finger stick used to test hemoglobin levels. Instead, donors will use a ring-shaped sensor that slips over the finger to take quick, noninvasive readings. New automated devices will also be used to measure temperature, blood pressure, and pulse, replacing older manual tools.

In addition to boosting comfort, the new approach helps the Red Cross reduce environmental waste by significantly cutting down on disposable medical supplies.

While the core donation process remains unchanged, organizers hope these upgrades will enhance the overall experience and encourage more Luna County residents to become regular donors. Walk-ins will also be accepted at the drive, in addition to scheduled appointments.
