State Police to Conduct Statewide Sobriety Checkpoints and Patrols Throughout August

DEMING – New Mexico State Police will be out in full force in Luna County and across all counties in August 2025, conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and checkpoints for registration, insurance, and driver’s license compliance.

These operations aim to reduce fatalities related to impaired driving by promoting awareness and encouraging responsible behavior. Officials stress that changing attitudes around driving under the influence is critical, and lives can be saved if drivers make the decision not to get behind the wheel while impaired.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division is supporting these efforts by providing overtime grant funding to local law enforcement agencies. These funds cover enforcement, training, education, and equipment in high-risk areas across the state.

The campaign is part of the broader #ENDWI initiative, which seeks to create safer roads for all New Mexicans by strengthening traffic safety enforcement and education statewide.
