DEMING – The Deming High Lady Wildcat soccer team opened their season in commanding fashion Saturday, posting a 7-0 shutout over the visiting Hatch Valley Bears at DHS Sports Complex.
According to the Deming Headlight, senior Alina Ortiz (11) led the charge, scoring five goals to set the tone for the home crowd. Teammates Jaydin Olmos (9) and Fita Jimenez (17) each added a goal to round out the scoring.
In her first start in goal, Ava Brown (01) recorded a clean sheet, keeping Hatch Valley off the scoreboard and securing the Lady ’Cats’ first win of the year.
