Police, Superintendent Speak Out After Juvenile Sexual Assault Charges Filed Against Deming Music Teacher

DEMING – The Deming Police Department has announced an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual assault involving a Deming Public Schools employee.

Chief of Police Sergio Lara confirmed that on September 14, the department received a report from a juvenile victim alleging incidents of criminal sexual misconduct. Investigators initiated an immediate inquiry, which has since led to probable cause for multiple charges against Deming music teacher Gerard Flores, 38. Charges include one count of criminal sexual penetration in the second degree, two counts of criminal sexual penetration in the fourth degree, and two counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor in the fourth degree.

The incidents are reported to have occurred between February of this year and the present. Police have executed search warrants, and the investigation remains active. Authorities stressed that the identity of the victim will not be released due to their juvenile status.

In a separate statement, Deming Public Schools Superintendent Nicholas Wohlgemuth said the district is fully cooperating with law enforcement and prioritizing the safety of its students. He emphasized that Flores has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Chief Lara stated the department remains committed to the safety and well-being of the community and will provide updates as appropriate.
