DEMING – New Mexico State Police have announced they will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in Luna County and across all 33 counties statewide during October 2025.
The enforcement effort is designed to reduce impaired driving-related crashes and fatalities by reminding drivers to make safe choices before getting behind the wheel. State Police stress that hundreds of lives could be saved each year if motorists chose not to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The initiative is supported by the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Division, which provides overtime grant funding for law enforcement agencies to carry out traffic safety enforcement, training, education, and equipment. These efforts focus on high-risk areas statewide, strengthening the campaign to ENDWI and create safer roads for every community.
Motorists are urged to plan ahead, use designated drivers, and remember that checkpoints and patrols will be active throughout the month in Luna County and beyond.
