Police Investigate Brutal Assault on South Gold Street; One Brother Arrested, Victim in Critical Condition

DEMING – A disturbing case of family violence unfolded in Deming on Tuesday, October 14th, after police responded to reports of blood stains discovered inside a residence on South Gold Street.

According to Deming Police, a call came into Central Dispatch regarding what appeared to be blood on the floor at a home located at 1620 South Gold Street. When officers arrived, they met with the mother of a 24-year-old male who explained that earlier in the day, her other son, 25-year-old Manuel Carrazco Jr., had arrived at her north-side home heavily covered in blood.

Police say the mother became alarmed after hearing her son’s explanation and decided to drive to the South Gold Street residence to check on her younger son. When she entered the home, she discovered what investigators later described as a “massive amount of blood” inside the residence.

Officers reviewed footage from the home’s security cameras, which allegedly showed Manuel Carrazco Jr. dragging the badly beaten body of his younger brother out of the residence and placing him in the back of a two-door sedan.

A short time later, a passing motorist traveling near Hermanas Grade and Doña Ana Road spotted what appeared to be a body lying along the roadside and immediately called 911. Emergency medical personnel responded and found the victim still alive but critically injured. He was rushed to Mimbres Memorial Hospital and later air-lifted to an El Paso hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Wednesday morning.

Deming Police Captain Jose Montoya told Deming Radio News that “the body was beaten so badly the young man was unrecognizable.” The victim was reportedly in a coma and unable to answer investigators’ questions.

At the South Gold Street residence, officers recovered a pistol they believe may have been used as a blunt weapon during the assault. Police emphasized that the firearm was not discharged but instead appeared to have been used to inflict physical injuries.

Investigators later located and arrested Manuel Carrazco Jr. The 6th Judicial District Attorney’s Office approved charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and kidnapping at this time. No additional charges have been filed pending further review.

Police say Carrazco refused to speak with officers and invoked his right to an attorney. As a result, investigators have not yet determined a motive for the attack.

Captain Montoya confirmed that the case remains under active investigation by the Deming Police Department.

Deming Radio News will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.
