DEMING – A Luna County Sheriff’s Office deputy has graduated from the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy, joining the ranks of Class 210 in a ceremony held this week in Santa Fe. Deputy Ceazar Chavez completed Basic Police Officer Training and will now take up full-duty service in Luna County.
The academy curriculum consisted of more than 750 hours of instruction, including domestic violence response, crisis intervention techniques, mental and emotional health awareness, state criminal and juvenile law, evidence collection procedures, surveillance, suspect identification, and basic firearms training. The program is structured to prepare new officers for the day-to-day responsibilities and challenges of working in law enforcement.
New Mexico Department of Public Safety Deputy Secretary Sylvia Serna stated that the academy holds cadets to high professional standards and works to ensure they are well-prepared to serve communities throughout the state.
Class 210 drew cadets from more than 20 law enforcement agencies. Among the other graduates with local ties were Ariadne Barrenada of the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Jacob Romo of the Hurley Police Department, both of whom will now begin service within their respective agencies.
