Woman Killed in Train-Pedestrian Incident Near Ruby and Railroad

DEMING – New Mexico State Police are investigating a fatal train-versus-pedestrian incident that occurred late Friday night near the intersection of Ruby and Railroad Street in Luna County. According to NMSP Officer Wilson Silver, who spoke with Deming Radio News, officers were dispatched at approximately 11:40 p.m. on November 7, 2025.

When officers arrived, they located a woman identified as 34-year-old Renee Smith. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. At this time, investigators have not determined whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.

The case remains under active investigation, and no additional details have been released. Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
