Village of Columbus Releases Updated Water Quality Report

DEMING–The Village of Columbus has released its latest water quality report following recent sampling through the New Mexico Environment Department’s Emerging Contaminants Program.

A letter sent to the Columbus Water System reports that recent lab tests found no detectable levels of several federally monitored “forever chemicals,” including PFOS, PFOA, PFNA, PFHxS and HFPO-DA. Tests for lithium and manganese were also below health-based screening levels.

State officials said the samples were collected on October 16 and analyzed by certified laboratories. The testing is part of an ongoing statewide effort to monitor drinking water systems for new or emerging contaminants.

Although additional monitoring will continue, the report indicates the Columbus system is currently meeting applicable federal expectations for the contaminants tested.

The Village of Columbus shared the results publicly on its Facebook page, noting that the update is intended to keep residents informed about water safety and overall system performance.
