Mixed Media Art Exhibit to Open at Deming Art Center in January

DEMING – The Deming Art Center will open its first exhibit of the new year with “Mixed Media Assemblage Art & Photography,” a show featuring the work of Vickie Voiers Morrow and Diane Alire. The exhibit will run from January 3 through January 30, 2026.

Morrow, a former Deming resident, is known for her assemblage art, creating pieces that reflect her years in Deming along with her well-known Guardian Angel series. Her work blends found materials and meaningful objects in ways that invite personal interpretation.

Alire, a photographer and printmaker based in Las Cruces, has lived in New Mexico since 2001 and operates her own studio, Gallery 925. Holding a master’s degree in photography, she has taught both photography and printmaking in Albuquerque and Las Cruces. Alire is drawn to gritty, textured subjects, often juxtaposing elements to encourage viewers to find their own meaning. Her latest work features black-and-white photographs meticulously hand-colored with transparent oils, pan pastels and colored pencils.

A meet-the-artists event is scheduled for Sunday, January 4, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., giving visitors a chance to speak with both artists about their creative process and inspirations.

The Deming Art Center is located at 100 S. Gold and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. More information is available at 575-546-3663, at demingarts.org, or on the center’s Facebook page.

The project is supported in part by New Mexico Arts, a division of the Department of Cultural Affairs, and by the National Endowment for the Arts.
