DEMING — The Deming Public Schools Board of Education will meet Thursday, December 18, at 5:30 p.m. at the Emmett Shockley Administration Building to address a full agenda focused on academics, district planning, and operational updates.
The meeting will open with the Pledge of Allegiance and approval of the agenda, followed by reports from NEA Deming and updates from Superintendent Nicholas Wohlgemuth. Superintendent reports are expected to include enrollment figures, human resources updates, recent superintendent activities, and board member recognition.
Public comment will be offered during the meeting, with individuals required to sign up in advance. Speakers will be limited to three minutes unless extended at the discretion of the board.
Several routine items are included on the consent agenda, including approval of minutes from the November 20 regular meeting, payment of bills for November, and multiple budget adjustment requests related to Title I and special education funding.
The board will then move into a series of discussion items, beginning with first readings of several proposed policy updates. These include policies related to report cards and progress reports, parent conferences, literacy proficiency notifications, and relationships with booster organizations. Additional discussion topics include planning and development of the 2026–2027 school calendar, strategies for improving academic performance and student outcomes, baseline student achievement data, and development of shared core values, purpose, and long-term goals for the district. Board members will also review a proposed 2026 legislative brief.
Action items later in the meeting include consideration of additional budget adjustments, approval of the final annual report from Deming Cesar Chavez Charter High School, and resolutions authorizing the disposal of surplus technology items and a structure located on Arrington Road. The board will also consider amendments to fleet service agreements with district transportation providers, with a focus on safety provisions.
Another key action item involves the district’s academic calendar. Board members will consider removing the previously adopted Early College High School and University Aligned 2025–2026 calendar and affirming that all K–12 schools will follow the districtwide calendar approved earlier this year.
The open session of the meeting will be streamed live on YouTube through the Deming Public Schools channel. The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for January 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Emmett Shockley Administration Building.
