DEMING – Deming Police are investigating a robbery reported Thursday night and are reminding residents and business owners to remain alert during the busy holiday season.
According to police, officers responded to a robbery call on December 18 at approximately 9:16 p.m. in the area of 200 East Pine Street near the Si Señor restaurant. A female victim reported that while she was locking up for the night, an unknown male approached her and grabbed her purse, which was worn across her body.
The suspect was described as wearing dark clothing, a hoodie, and a face covering. He fled west on Pine Street and then south on Silver Street. The victim briefly chased the suspect while calling 911 but lost sight of him near the intersection of Spruce and Silver Streets due to low lighting. The purse contained cash and personal items, and the victim suffered minor redness and scratches to her neck caused by the purse strap being pulled.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are reviewing available video footage from nearby businesses. Anyone with information related to this robbery is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers, the Deming Police Department, or Central Dispatch.
Police are also sharing a holiday safety reminder, urging residents and business employees to stay aware of their surroundings, especially when opening or closing businesses or walking to and from vehicles after dark. Community members are encouraged to secure valuables, avoid carrying large amounts of cash when possible, and promptly report suspicious persons or activity by calling 911 in an emergency or the non-emergency line for less urgent concerns.
