Roadway Rehabilitation Underway on NM 26 Near Deming

DEMING – A roadway rehabilitation project is underway on New Mexico Highway 26 from mile marker 0 at the U.S. 180 intersection to mile marker 10, just east of Deming.

Mountain States Constructors, Inc. is the contractor for the project, which includes significant roadway improvements along the busy corridor. Motorists traveling through the area are urged to reduce speed and obey all posted traffic control devices for the safety of work crews and the traveling public.

Oversize and overweight loads are not permitted on NM 26 during construction. Drivers should expect ongoing traffic impacts, including the use of a temporary traffic signal, flagging operations, and pilot cars in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Speed limits will be reduced to 35 miles per hour or lower through the work zone.

Construction activities are scheduled Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with the possibility of weekend work as needed. Roadwork began December 1 and will continue through December 23, at which time construction will suspend for the holiday period. All traffic impacts will be removed during the suspension.

Operations are scheduled to resume on January 8, 2026. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution while traveling through the construction zone.
