Long Holiday Weekend Brings Arrests, Property Damage, and Fatal Crash

DEMING – Police activity over the long holiday weekend included multiple arrests on misdemeanor and felony charges, a report of property damage at a local business, and a fatal traffic crash that remains under investigation.

Officers arrested Chanda Paltza, 50, on a charge of battery against a household member. Jimmy Alec Romero, 23, was taken into custody on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. Makea Payne, 34, was arrested on a District Court warrant for failure to appear and was listed as no bond. Kevin Ramos, 24, was arrested on charges of battery against a household member and possession of a controlled substance identified as methamphetamine. Randy Torres, 36, was arrested on a Municipal Court warrant for failure to pay.

In a separate case, Jose Cerecedo, 45, was arrested on multiple charges including trafficking a controlled substance identified as methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance other than meth, and a Luna County Magistrate Court warrant for failure to appear .

Police also reported criminal damage to property at Tractor Supply, where a broken window resulted in an estimated fifteen-hundred dollars in damage.

Investigators are continuing to review a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle at the intersection of Pine Street and Country Club Road. A 25-year-old male was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. A 6-year-old female was also transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
