County Commission to Honor Longtime Employees, Hold Public Work Session Thursday

DEMING – The Luna County Board of County Commissioners will meet this Thursday, January 8th, beginning with a public work session followed by the regular commission meeting at the Luna County Courthouse.

The work session is scheduled from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. and will provide an opportunity for public comment on county-related matters and items expected to be discussed during the regular meeting. Comments during the work session are limited to three minutes per speaker.

Immediately following the work session, the regular meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m. During the meeting, commissioners are scheduled to recognize several county employees for years of service. Service awards will be presented to Linda Martinez for 10 years of service with the Detention Center; Crystal Lessau and Michael Milo, each for 15 years of service with the Detention Center; and Isabelle Enciso for 25 years of service with the Assessor’s Office.

The commission will also recognize the retirement of Arturo Baeza, who concludes a long career with the Luna County Sheriff’s Office spanning from 1973 to 2025.

Additional agenda items include the election of the 2026 commission chairperson, approval of prior meeting minutes, a special community service recognition for Play Sharity Children’s Museum and Library, a presentation on restrictive housing at the Luna County Detention Center, consideration of financial and budget-related resolutions, and reports from elected officials and the county manager.

Both the work session and regular meeting are open to the public and will be held at the Luna County Courthouse.
