DEMING – A residential structure fire destroyed a home Friday at 514 South Silver Street, according to a Deming Police Department media report. The residence was reported as a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Police also reported multiple arrests stemming from domestic-related incidents. Joel Galvan, 39, was arrested on a charge of battery against a household member. Jose Hernandez, 34, was arrested on charges of criminal damage to the property of a household member and concealing identity.
In other reports, police investigated several property crimes across the city. A propane tank valued at $370 was reported stolen from the Mimbres Valley Feed Store at 1410 South Columbus Road. Damage was also reported at the Deming Visitors Center, where decorations were spray-painted and damaged, resulting in an estimated $500 in losses. Police stated a suspect was identified in that case and an arrest warrant has been issued. Additionally, officers responded to a report of criminal damage and larceny at Walmart, where a propane storage tank case attached to a forklift was damaged and two propane tanks were stolen, resulting in an estimated $900 loss.
