DEMING – Luna County residents and businesses are being reminded that a new ordinance eliminating single-use plastic bags will take effect later this month.
The Luna County Board of County Commissioners adopted Ordinance 121 on December 18, 2025. The ordinance was officially recorded on December 23 and is scheduled to go into effect on January 23, 2026.
County officials are encouraging residents and local businesses to begin transitioning to reusable bags ahead of the effective date. Copies of the ordinance are available for public review at the Luna County Clerk’s Office and the Luna County Manager’s Office, both located at the Luna County Courthouse.
Officials say the ordinance is intended to reduce waste and help keep Luna County clean, thanking the public for their cooperation and support as the new rule goes into effect.
