DEMING — Drivers in and around Deming are being advised to slow down and plan for delays as two major road projects are now underway.
On NM 26, Mountain States Constructors has begun a roadway rehabilitation project from mile marker zero at the U.S. 180 intersection to mile marker ten. A temporary traffic signal, flagging, and pilot car operations will be in place 24 hours a day, with speed limits reduced to 35 miles per hour or lower. Oversize and overweight loads are not permitted on this route. Work is scheduled from 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, with possible weekend construction.
Meanwhile on NM 11 near the Columbus Port of Entry, Morrow Enterprises is building a concrete box culvert at the intersection of NM 11 and El Paso Avenue, just north of the port. Speed limits have been reduced, and drivers are urged to follow all posted traffic control devices. Work hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with completion expected by Spring of 2026.
Motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and use caution in both construction zones.
