Mountain View Cemetery Clean-Up Scheduled to Begin in March

DEMING – The City of Deming has announced a scheduled clean-up and maintenance operation at Mountain View Cemetery that will begin March 2, 2026, and is expected to last approximately two weeks.

According to a public service announcement released February 4, the work will be conducted under City of Deming Ordinance 8-4-5, which governs landscaping and grave maintenance. City officials say the effort is intended to maintain the cleanliness of the cemetery grounds and preserve the site as a place of rest and remembrance.

During the clean-up period, city crews will remove items not located in vases that are attached to or placed on headstones. Items subject to removal include flowers, glass vases, solar lights, and miscellaneous objects.

The ordinance allows cemetery staff to remove floral arrangements once they become withered or unsightly, and prohibits glass or ceramic containers, which can pose safety hazards and interfere with maintenance equipment. Artificial flowers and winter wreaths may also be removed at designated times. Containers are not allowed to exceed the height of the monument, and the use of rocks or metal to secure decorations is strictly prohibited. Digging holes for any purpose is not permitted.

Small American flags may be displayed on appropriate occasions, but cemetery personnel may remove them after three days. The city also reserves the right to remove or correct any memorial or object deemed objectionable or placed contrary to regulations, without liability for safekeeping.

The clean-up will begin on the west side of Mountain View Cemetery and progress eastward. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the City of Deming Community Development Department at 575-546-8848.
