School Incident Determined to Be Handled Internally by Administrators
DEMING — Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara told Deming Radio News today that a recent incident at Deming High School involved two male students who became involved in an argument that escalated into a fistfight.
Chief Lara said that when school staff intervened and separated the two students, one of the students made a threat toward the other involving additional violence and a weapon. After reviewing the situation, school administrators made the decision to handle the matter internally rather than pursue criminal charges.
In a statement released by Deming High School Principal Gasper Lozano, school officials noted that the district has recently changed its rules regarding physical contact between students. However, as of this report, Deming Radio News has not received written documentation outlining what those specific personal contact violations are or what disciplinary consequences may apply under the updated rules.

DEMING — Deming High School administrators are addressing a recent incident involving student behavior on campus and say additional safety measures have been implemented to ensure the continued safety of students and staff.
In a message sent to parents and guardians, Deming Public Schools confirmed the school is aware of the incident and is handling the matter in accordance with district discipline and safety procedures. School officials emphasized that student and staff safety remains their highest priority.
According to the district, the student involved in the incident is not permitted to be on campus, and appropriate steps are being taken to ensure compliance with that restriction. Administrators also said they are working closely with district officials and local partners to maintain a safe learning environment.
Deming High School Principal Gasper Lozano said the school acted promptly once the incident was identified.
“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” Lozano said. “We have implemented additional safety measures and are working closely with district officials and local partners to ensure our campus remains a safe place for learning.”
School officials are encouraging parents and guardians to remind students of the importance of reporting any concerns to a trusted adult on campus, including teachers, counselors, or administrators.
