DEMING – National Agriculture Week will be observed March 15–21, shining a spotlight on the farmers, ranchers and agricultural leaders who help sustain Luna County and communities across New Mexico.
National Agriculture Week is a time to recognize the vital role agriculture plays in feeding, clothing and supporting the nation. In Luna County, that impact is visible every day in fields, ranches, livestock operations and youth programs.
Local farmers and ranchers form the backbone of the area’s rural economy, contributing not only food production but also stewardship of land and water resources. From crop production to cattle operations, agriculture remains a cornerstone of the county’s heritage and future.
Youth programs such as 4-H and FFA continue to develop the next generation of agricultural leaders. These programs provide hands-on experience in livestock care, crop science, leadership development and community service.
Luna County Extension Agent Jack Blandford works closely with local producers and youth participants, offering educational programs, resources and support throughout the year. His office plays a key role in connecting agricultural families with research-based information and training opportunities.
During National Agriculture Week, residents are encouraged to thank the farmers, ranchers, 4-H members and FFA students who work year-round to strengthen the local agricultural community.
