DEMING – The City of Deming is reminding residents and business owners that seasonal water restrictions are in effect as part of local conservation ordinances aimed at protecting the city’s water supply and supporting statewide efforts to conserve water in New Mexico.
According to a notice shared by the City of Deming, the restrictions are in place each year from April 1 through September 30. The guidelines regulate outdoor water use, including lawn watering and vehicle washing, and are intended to reduce unnecessary water waste during the warmer months.
Under the city’s watering schedule, residents must water according to the last number of their address. Addresses ending in even numbers (0, 2, 4, 6, 8) may water on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, while addresses ending in odd numbers (1, 3, 5, 7, 9) may water on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. All addresses are permitted to water on Sunday.
The city also states that no watering may occur between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., when evaporation rates are highest. Washing vehicles is allowed only when a shut-off nozzle is used on the hose.
Additional rules address water waste, including “ponding” or the collection of water in streets or neighboring properties, which can result in a citation. Property owners are also required to repair water leaks within ten working days of discovering the issue or being notified.
The notice also clarifies regulations regarding swimming pools, stating that pools must be properly equipped with filtration and recirculation systems, and water may not be drained into streets, alleys, or public rights-of-way.
City officials say the regulations will be actively enforced, and violations may lead to citations, fines, or a requirement to appear before a municipal judge.
The city encourages residents to follow the guidelines as part of the community’s effort to conserve water during the upcoming warmer months.
