Deming High School Earns State Recognition for Strong Gains in Literacy and Math

DEMING – Deming High School has been recognized for strong academic growth in both literacy and mathematics during the 2024–2025 school year, placing the school among the top large high schools in New Mexico for improvement in student performance.

According to recent academic data, Deming High School recorded a 12.5 percent increase in literacy proficiency. That improvement ranks the school among the top large schools in the state, defined as campuses with more than 800 students, for literacy growth during the school year.

School officials also reported measurable gains in mathematics. Deming High School ranked among the state’s top large schools for growth in math proficiency, posting a 4.6 percent increase in student performance.

Deming High Principal Gasper Lozano told Deming Radio News that the improvements reflect ongoing efforts by teachers, administrators, and students to strengthen academic achievement and expand learning opportunities in core subject areas.

District leaders say the recognition highlights the commitment of Deming High School staff and students to improving educational outcomes and building a strong academic foundation for future success.
