NMSP Arrests Man After License Plate Technology Locates Stolen U-Haul and Motorcycle

DEMING – New Mexico State Police utilized license plate recognition technology to apprehend a man in Lordsburg driving a stolen U-Haul truck containing a stolen motorcycle.

The incident began on November 21, 2024, when the Automatic License Plate Recognition system flagged a 2017 U-Haul truck stolen from Tucson, Arizona. The truck was tracked eastbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 22.

Around 8:30 a.m., NMSP officers found the vehicle parked at a Dollar General in Lordsburg. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Jeremy Gonzales of Tucson, was arrested after officers discovered a stolen 2016 Honda motorcycle inside the truck.

Gonzales was booked into the Hidalgo County Detention Center on charges of possessing a stolen motor vehicle.
