DEMING – The Western New Mexico University Board of Regents held a hybrid meeting on Thursday, December 12, focusing on university updates and approving several initiatives. The meeting, led by Regent President Dr. Mary E. Hotvedt, included reports from faculty, staff, and student representatives.
The board addressed public concerns first, following comments about a state auditor’s special report. Updates from WNMU President Joseph Shepard and leadership groups highlighted campus achievements.
Key approvals included awarding Staff Emeritus status to Barbara Flores, granting tenure to Associate Professor Heather Frankland, and approving sabbatical leave for two professors. The regents also accepted a five-year plan for academic growth, introducing new certificates, degrees, and a PhD program.
Additional actions included approving changes to university policies, a revised budget adjustment, and updates to the Faculty Handbook. The meeting concluded with acknowledgments from board members, including remarks from Dr. Hotvedt, who ends her term this year.
