DEMING – New Mexico State Senator Crystal Brantley has introduced two bills in the current legislative session addressing the fentanyl crisis and infrastructure needs in southern New Mexico. According to KOB-TV, the proposed legislation includes increased penalties for fentanyl-related crimes, particularly overdoses resulting in death and distribution offenses.
Brantley is also pushing for a $3 million investment to upgrade communication infrastructure in New Mexico’s southern border counties. The senator emphasized the importance of modernizing resources in the region while maintaining that immigration issues remain a federal responsibility.
Additionally, Brantley is sponsoring a bill to ban sanctuary cities across New Mexico. If passed, this legislation would require all local governments to collaborate with ICE officials on immigration enforcement.
