Microchips Key to Reuniting Lost Pets With Owners

* Microchips play a crucial role in reuniting lost pets with their owners, as nearly all veterinarians, animal shelters, and animal control officers have scanners capable of reading them. These tiny implants provide a permanent form of identification, increasing the chances that a lost pet will find its way home.

However, pet owners should be aware that a company called Save This Life, which provided microchips, recently declared bankruptcy. If a pet has a microchip number beginning with 991 or 900164, it was issued by this company. This information can be obtained by scanning the pet’s microchip. The good news is that these chips can still be re-registered with a new company, ensuring continued protection for pets.

In legislative news, there is still time to contact Senator Gabriel Ramos ([email protected]) to urge support for House Bill 113, which would allocate $7 million from Appropriations to animal shelters and spay/neuter programs. Representative Jenifer Jones has already confirmed her support for the bill.

Meanwhile, a heartwarming journey came to a happy ending for Blanco, a rescued pet who traveled all the way to Colorado thanks to the dedication of a compassionate volunteer named BJ. Blanco is now settling into his new home, where he can rest easy and enjoy a fresh start. Sweet dreams, Blanco.
