DEMING – The Luna County Board of Commissioners will convene for a regular meeting this Thursday, April 10, at 10 a.m. in the Luna County Courthouse. The amended agenda includes employee recognitions, proclamations, key budget decisions, and reports on public safety and health.
Chair Colette M. Chandler, joined by Commissioners Ray J. Trejo of District 1 and Christie Ann Harvey of District 3, is expected to lead the meeting, beginning with the Pledge of Allegiance and state pledge.
Among the highlights will be recognition of county employees, including a five-year service award for Luis Nevarez of Detention and Dispatch, and a special “Stork Award” to Janet Pacheco for her service.
Commissioners will also consider five proclamations honoring public service, including Emergency Medical Services Week, Firefighter’s Day, National Correctional Officers Week, Law Enforcement Week, Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, and the Local Great American Clean-Up.
Presentations on the agenda include a ceremonial swearing-in of Luna County Detention Center staff by Judge Jennifer Barela Davalos, reports on jail conditions and restrictive housing by Deputy Warden Robert Apodaca, and a health update from the Luna County Health Council.
The Commission will review over $4.2 million in accounts payable and payroll under the consent agenda, along with resolutions on budget increases, transfers, and property disposal.
A public hearing is scheduled on Resolution 25-26, which would ban or restrict certain fireworks and open fires ahead of the fire season. Additional new business includes resolutions concerning land exchange, road projects, a union agreement with the Sheriff’s Department, and apartment renovation bids.
Discussion items will include the potential launch of an Ammunition Disposal Program and a proposal to begin holding evening Commission meetings.
