DEMING – Seventeen Luna County 4-H youth took part in the 2025 New Mexico State 4-H Championship held May 1–4 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton. The four-day event welcomed over 300 participants from across New Mexico competing in nine different skill areas, offering youth a chance to demonstrate focus, precision, and dedication.
Luna County 4-H competed in three categories: archery (compound bow), clay target precision, and a skill-based marksmanship category.
In the marksmanship event, Team 1 — Monte Offutt, Joshua Wilkinson, Audrey Donaldson, and Issac Gamboa — earned third place as a team. Individually, Monte Offutt placed second overall and Joshua Wilkinson earned fourth. Team 2 — Marshall Offutt, Nate Ortiz, Jose Wilson, and Abrie Ortiz — placed eighth.
Two Luna County teams competed in archery using compound bows. Team 1 — Monte Offutt, Marshall Offutt, Hunter Patterson, and Aiden Jasso — finished fourth as a team. Team 2 included Daxton Schulke, Maxeen Jasso, Dante Torres, and Jose Wilson.
In clay target precision, Team 1 — Aiden Jasso, Daxton Schulke, Isaac Gamboa, and Damien Sera — placed sixth, while Team 2 — Nate Ortiz, Josue Tafoya, Izaihiz Nunn, and Ryndon Bookout — placed 17th.
“We are so proud of the 4-H youth who trained hard through all kinds of weather to reach this level,” local organizers said. “We look forward to watching their continued growth next year.”
