Deming Releases 2024 Water Quality Report

DEMING – The City of Deming has released its 2024 Consumer Confidence Report on drinking water quality, confirming that local water remains safe and compliant with federal and state health standards. The report, required annually under the Safe Drinking Water Act, provides transparency on water sources, monitoring data, and contaminant levels.

The report highlights that while Deming’s water meets or exceeds EPA standards, trace amounts of arsenic and chlorine are present, both within legal limits. Officials stress there is no health violation. The most recent testing shows chlorine levels ranging from 0.2 to 0.3 parts per million—used to control microbial growth in the public water supply.

A key update for 2024 includes the City’s submission of a lead line inventory to the New Mexico Environment Department. While no lead violations were detected, residents are advised to flush stagnant tap water for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before use, especially in older homes.

The report also explains the natural presence of certain minerals and contaminants in groundwater, as well as special precautions recommended for immunocompromised individuals, infants, and the elderly.

Copies of the full report and water source assessments are available by request through the NMED Drinking Water Bureau. For more details, visit the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water site at www.epa.gov/safewater or call the Safe Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
