DEMING – In response to last night’s heavy rainfall and flooding along U.S. Highway 180, Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara told KDEM and KOTS News that the department’s MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle) was deployed to assist in rescuing several stranded motorists.
Five travelers were safely retrieved from their vehicles using the MRAP and transported to the Comfort Inn for shelter. Their vehicles remain near the rest area, off the main roadway, surrounded by high floodwaters following the downpour.
Deming Police Officers Villa and Madrid led the rescue operation and ensured all individuals were brought to safety.
Chief Lara commended his officers for their swift response and urged the public to stay alert during severe weather, reminding residents never to attempt crossing flooded roads.
