Freddie O. Rodriguez, 89, a lifelong resident of Deming, NM entered eternal rest on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at Willow Manor in Deming.
Freddie was born on June 26, 1936 to Jose Ortiz Rodriguez and Juana Fajardo Rodriguez.
Freddie was fondly known as the Spanish teacher at Deming Junior High School. He also taught at Sunnyside High School in south Tucson where he was chosen Teacher of the Year.
Freddie was an active member of St. Ann’s church as eucharistic minister and member of the parish council.
The family would like to thank Luna County Rehab and Willow Manner for the care he received before he went into the arms of our Lord.
Wherever we went, we heard “Señor Rodriguez was my Spanish teacher”.
He is survived by his wife, Dolores Baca Rodriguez; two sons, Julian Rodriguez of CA and Alfred Rodriguez of Tempe, AZ; three daughters, Evelyn Baca of Austin, TX; Laurie Mendenhall and her husband Brian of Peoria, AZ and Marie James of Mesa, AZ; three brothers, Albert Rodriguez of Deming, NM; Richard Rodriguez of Silver City, NM and Danny Rodriguez and his wife Lillian of Deming, NM; one sister, Maggie Armijo of Deming, NM; twelve grandchildren, Cameron James, Braden James, Seth Mendenhall, Dylan Chavez, Ashley Chavez, Jordan Chavez, Abriana Chavez, Elliott Mendenhall, Nicolette Rodriguez, Kelsey James, Ella James and Elsa Rodriguez; and one great granddaughter, Ellaya Chavez.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents; one brother, Joe Rodriguez; and one sister, Estella Ruiz.
Holy rosary will be on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 9:30am at St. Ann Catholic Church with Patsy Leyba officiating. Funeral mass will then begin at 10am with Father Francis Gyau officiating. Cremation will then take place at Terrazas Crematory.
Serving as pallbearers are Cameron James, Braden James, Seth Mendenhall, Dylan Chavez. Nick Armijo, Robert Ruiz, Jonathan Rodriguez and Jacob Rodriguez.
